- Title
Poliovirus, Sabin, type 1 - Progress report on replacement International Standard for the monkey neurovirulence test.
- Abstract
The article reports on studies conducted to find a replacement for the International Standard governing monkey neurovirulence test for oral polio vaccines (OPV). Continued testing has been called for to maintain emergency stocks of OPV, given that polio eradication is expected to take longer than expected. In 2005, a study revealed that around three percent of the filled vials of OPV had a very low level of contamination. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends a re-investigation.
