The article examines the savings potential in the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers' (ASHRAE) Standard 90.1, "Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings." Topics discussed include the end-use analysis conducted by the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) of commercial building prototypes simulated to meet Standard 90.1, the diminishing returns in advancing energy codes, and the standard's energy efficiency requirements.
