- Abstract
The following article is a study of Nacho Lopez's work in photography, focusing mainly on two of his most famous series: “Cuando una mujer guapa parte plaza por Madero" (When a beautiful woman walks down Madero Avenue) and “La Venus se fue de juerga por los barios bajos" (Venus went partying in the poor quarters). First published in the magazine Siempre! Presencia de México, 1953, these photographic pieces conceive a very specific female prototype. Both series use photojournalism as a language that can accurately replicate the events. However, through his rare and unique view and use of photographic imagery he challenges the limits of this activity. The article will also examine the use of these images in Lopez's subsequent project, “Yo, el ciudadano" (I, Citizen), published in Artes de México, 1964.
