- Abstract
The Intracranial Pressure (ICP) is defined as the ratio between the skull and the volume content of the skull. In Traumatic brain injury (TBI) brain volume may increase in isolation, causing the intracranial hypertension (ICH). The use of hypertonic solutions and diuretic, such as Mannitol, it is a possible choice at the pre-hospital, in reducing ICP and the vital maintenance of the patient. This study aimed to analyze publications, the last fifteen years on the use of hyperosmotic solutions in the management of ICH due to TBI. The specific objectives are identify hyperosmotic solutions used in the treatment of ICH, describe the indications and contraindications of the solutions most commonly used in the treatment of ICH and compare the efficacy of the hyperosmotic solutions available in SUS for prehospital care. This study is a systematic review which the data were collected in the following databases: SCIELO, LILACS and MEDLINE.
