- Title
El Reglamento de montes de 1788. Un proyecto frustrado para salvar los bosques de Gran Canaria a finales del Antiguo Régimen.
- Authors
Brito González, Alexis D.
- Abstract
The pressure exerted by humans on the forests of Gran Canaria since the conquest, and which increased significantly during the eighteenth century, led to their deterioration and progressive disappearance. Faced with the possibility that the island's forest cover might completely vanish, the Real Audiencia of the islands ordered the creation of a junta, which then drafted a by-law document for the conservation of the forest. This research article focuses on the genesis and content of said document, as well as on the fulfilment of its goals.
