- Abstract
A study was conducted on two species of Pandanus to investigate the habitat classifications of P. immersus Ridley and P. tectorius Parkinson in Peninsular Malaysia. Traditionally, their leaves are used as woven materials to produce mats, baskets and hats. They also have been used for medicinal purposes. The objective of this study is to identify the type of habitat for these two species. Field data on plant localities were recorded. Digital images of the habitats and plants were captured for comparative analysis. Soils were sampled for soil type classification. P. immersus could be easily found in swampy areas, meanwhile, P. tectorius is commonly found in the coastal areas including rocky and sandy beaches. Most of P. immersus and P. tectorius can also inhabit sandy clay loam soil.
