- Abstract
Visco-elastic plates find a wide range of application, especially in weight sensitive structures like aircraft, spacecraft due to their high strength-to-weight ratio and high stiffness-to-weight ratio. Laminated plates used in these structures are often subjected to dynamic loads. This necessitates the study of buckling and vibrational characteristics of these plates. A Quintic splines interpolation technique used for solving fourth-order differential equation of the motion of rectangular plates with one dimensional quadratic varying thickness and parabolic temperature distribution for two different combinations of C-S-C-S and S-S-S-S boundary conditions. An algorithm for computing the solution of this differential equation is presented for the case of equal intervals. The effect of thermal gradient together with taper constants on the natural frequencies of vibration is calculated for the first two modes of vibration.
