- Abstract
The article presents a case study of 60-year-old Japanese woman with a 2-week history of facial erythema. It mentions that her clinical examination revealed oedematous erythema accompanied by pruritus on the face. It states that she has contact dermatitis caused by arbutin present in skin whitening cosmetics. It informs that arbutin is a glycosylated hydroquinone produced by the bearberry which inhibits melanin production by decreasing tyrosinase activity.
