- Abstract
This article explores a case of cutaneous leishmaniasis reactivation in a kidney transplant patient in the Brazilian Amazon. Cutaneous leishmaniasis is a disease that can resurface months or years after the initial infection, leading to severe damage. The patient in this case had a history of the disease and developed symptoms of mucocutaneous leishmaniasis in the nasal cavity after the transplant. The article emphasizes the rarity of this occurrence in transplant patients and discusses other similar cases found in existing literature. It also highlights the importance of early diagnosis, appropriate treatment, and adjusting immunosuppression to improve outcomes and reduce disease severity. The article acknowledges the challenges of controlling the disease, particularly in endemic areas, and the added concern of graft involvement in immunosuppressed patients.
