- Abstract
The article analyzes the structures of noun + preposition + infinitive in sports news in Spanish. Six linking prepositions used in these constructions were identified: de, para, a, por, sin, and en. The most commonly used preposition was "de". The syntactic function of these constructions at the sentence level was analyzed, and several functions were identified, such as direct object complement, subject, nominal complement, attribute, circumstantial complement, and regime complement. Additionally, structures that could be considered complex lexemes related to the sports field were identified. The study concludes that a larger corpus is needed to determine if these structures are exclusive to a variety of Spanish and that sports journalists write for both specialized and general newspapers.
