- Title
ANÁLISIS DEL SISTEMA VERBAL EN EL CUENTO "¡DILES QUE NO ME MATEN!" DE JUAN RULFO.
- Authors
Quintero Ramírez, Sara
- Abstract
the purpose of this article is to discover the forms, moods and tenses used to construct the short story "¡Diles que no me maten!" in order to identify the verb system used by Rulfo in this text. Throughout the short story, the three non-finite forms (infinitive, participle and gerund), indicative tenses (present, perfective past, imperfective past, conditional and future), two subjunctive tenses (present and past), and finally the imperative tense are distinguished. Among the above mentioned verb forms, Rulfo uses mostly the infinitive with typical verbal complements in order to constitute syntagms displaying different syntactic functions throughout the text. Among other recurring verb forms in the story, both the past tense of the indicative mood and the past participle forming different compound tenses are found.
