- Abstract
The author offers information on the plant genus Tropaeolum. Since the mid-16th century, some of its species have been cultivated in Europe, including Tropaeolum peregrinum L. or the Canary Creeper which was brought from Peru to Spain. It was described by Dodoens as Nasturtium Indicum in 1574 and this led to the colloquial name for Tropaeolum majus as Nasturtium or Indian Cress. Several people who studied the genus were mentioned, including Bengt Sparre, John Watson and Anita Flores.
