- Abstract
Furniture production is one of the most traditional activities in the transformation industry. In this segment, wood predominates as a raw material, which also undergoes an industrial transformation process to later be destined for furniture producers. In addition, the furniture sector chain has links in the branches of capital goods (machinery and equipment) and intermediate goods (textiles, paints, packaging, parts and metal parts, etc.). The objective of the article is to present an overview of furniture production, emphasizing the analysis of the dynamics of the sector in Brazil from the 2000s. To achieve this objective, bibliographic search is used through the state of the art published about the theme, in addition to data from the main repositories. It is argued that the Brazilian furniture production was raised to a new level of development based on the economic and social policies put into practice in the Lula-Dilma governments. This finding is based on reality data, which are exposed in the text. At the best moment for the sector, the number of formal jobs grew by 4,15% between 2007-13, a very different performance compared to -3,40% between 2014-19 (RAIS, 2019). The value of industrial production grew by 10.23% and -0,15% respectively in the same periods (IBGE, 2018).
