- Abstract
The article reports on the results of research which was conducted in an effort to determine whether deployment with armed combat exposure was associated with new onset or continued alcohol consumption, binge drinking and alcohol related problems. Researchers evaluated the binge drinking and alcohol related problems that were present in over 5,000 soldiers. They found that reserve and National Guard personnel and younger service members who deploy with reported combat exposures are at an increased risk of new onset heavy weekly drinking, binge drinking and alcohol related problems.
