- Abstract
The article discusses research which was conducted to estimate inpatient, outpatient, emergency department, and pharmacy expenditures related to back and neck problems in the United States from 1997 through 2005 and which examined associated trends in health status. The research involved a household survey called the Medical Expenditure Survey that used complex survey regression methods. Researchers found that in the survey population self reported back and neck problems accounted for a a large proportion of health care expenditures which have increased from 1997 to 2005.
