- Abstract
The article discusses the U.S. Financial Stability Oversight Council (FSOC) as of March 2012, focusing on its proposed rule and interpretive guidance related to the process that it uses to designate nonbank financial firms (NBFFs) as systemically important financial institutions (SIFIs). The FSOC is reportedly authorized under the U.S. Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform & Consumer Protection Act to designate NBFFs that it feels are possible threats to the financial stability of the U.S. as SIFIs.
