- Abstract
The article focuses on the economic well being of lone mothers who were singled out and left behind during the time of economic prosperity in Canada from the middle of 1990 to the middle of 2000. It says that lone mothers were faced on the reduction and potential loss of social assistance due to the workfare or work-first welfare requirements policy. It mentions that the workfare programs have failed to meet the needs of lone mothers because of their status as a solo care-givers.
