- Abstract
The energy required by a machine tool to produce a product is mostly used by the main and auxiliary processes. Often it is not known how much energy each process consumes. Using a metrological method, this data is collected and analyzed. Processes under load and idle are evaluated. A special work piece was constructed for these evaluations. Current data show that in contrast to the auxiliary processes the energy used during the main processes is low. Researchers want to use this data to improve the efficiency of machine tools. For energy efficient production in the area of industrial engineering, the focus needs to be placed on auxiliary processes at machine tools, it is all about saving energy.
