- Authors
DARGIE, DAVE
- Abstract
The article focuses on what it calls an extraordinary musical instrument, known as the xhosa umrhubhe mouthbow. It discusses the etymology of the word based on the African people who used them, namely the Xhosa, the Zulu and the Mpondo. It also describes the construction of the instrument, how it is played and how it sounds when played as a solo instrument or as an accompaniment to a song. A review of literature on the instrument is presented.
