- Abstract
The article looks at the portrayal of feminine beauty in medieval literature of the Iberian peninsula and its evolutionary significance. Youth, health and reproductive value are said to be related to physical features men consider attractive in women. The article traces the canon of beauty in the 12th century to the classical Latin tradition. Also noted is the lack of significant changes in the standards of feminine beauty during the last millennium.
