The article discusses historical studies focused on the social status of Cheyenne Indian women during nineteenth century intertribal warfare in the Great Plains region of the U.S. Topics explored include the reported contribution of these women to the war culture in addition to economic production, the documentation of tribal history by anthropologist George Bird Grinnell, and the status-enhancing skills taught by elderly Cheyenne women to girls.
