- Abstract
This publication presents documents illustrating the efforts of the State Archaeological Commission to nationalize the cultural heritage of the estates from November 1919 to April 1921. Director Eduardas Volteris and his collaborators Paulius Galaunė, Konstantinas Jablonskis, Stasys Brašiškis, and Valerijonas Drevinskis visited at least fifteen palaces. Their owners lived in France or Poland, while their estates were supervised by their representatives who were only partially capable of preserving the valuables left behind in these uninhabited palaces. Because of these visits and expeditions, works of art, libraries, and family archives were taken from the palaces to Kaunas and Šiauliai, where they were transferred to archives, museums, and libraries.
