- Authors
MEDINA PLANA, Raquel
- Abstract
This article discusses the role of gender in wills written during the 15th and 16th centuries in Úbeda in the province of Andalusia, Spain. It examines the laws of succession and inheritance in the region, including patrimonies through marriage and dowries. The author provides an analysis and interpretation of the collation contained in 500 wills, all of which were collected from a historical archive in Úbeda. The question of the equality of gender in relation to the size of the inheritance received by sons and daughters is also explored.
