- Abstract
The article discusses a 3-year randomized, placebo-controlled trial on the effects of a single baseline dose of 5 milligram (mg) of intravenous zoledronate on bone turnover and bone mineral density (BMD). Participants included 50 healthy women more than five years in postmenopausal with osteopenia. The data gathered suggests that maintaining bone turnover in the lower part of the normal premenopausal range may be possible through infrequent administration of zoledronate and preventing early postmenopausal bone loss can be achieved effectively.
