One week later, the patient has visited a dermatologist who prescribed topical steroids, when they observed no response; the patient was referred to a pathologist for laboratory investigation of the lesions. Furthermore, patients and physicians should be aware of the importance of full travel history in guiding the differential diagnosis. Learning point for clinicians This case highlights the importance of a detailed travel history and considering endemic tropical diseases in the differential diagnosis, even when the presentation is atypical.
