- Title
Why Ratify? Lessons from Treaty Ratification Campaigns.
- Authors
Oberdörster, Uta
- Abstract
The article examines the factors accounted for the disparity of Migration Convention and Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) ratification campaigns. It explores the brief summary of the current international relations theories on state behavior and explains each theory for ratification. It discusses the three ratification campaigns that were successfully entered into force and their features, which includes, a close relationship with an international organization, a clear formulation of the normative argument and the emphasis dissemination through domestic grassroots networks. Moreover, the article concludes that the theory of state behavior explains the NGO-driven treaty ratification campaigns' success but does not address all the factors that may influence ratification.
