- Title
"Derche Bloom Räde": Arnold Dyck and the Comic Irony of the Forstei.
- Authors
Reimer, Al
- Abstract
The article investigates the comic irony in the works of Arnold Dyck. The author notes that the richly evocative humor of Dyck's Low German stories and plays have captivated Mennonite readers for a period of years and suggests that a part of Dyck's irony had its creative beginning in the Mennonite forestry services in Russia. A few discerning readers who have offered tribute to his comic art have also acknowledged that he is more than a peasant yarn-spinner who has a purpose to entertain people. The author also explores how Dyck's studies, learnings and a very different kind of training helped him as a man and as a writer.
