- Title
Publishing participation and productivity among journalist-academics in the era of ERA.
- Authors
Bromley, Michael; Neal, Regan
- Abstract
The first survey of journalist-academics at Australian universities in the era of Excellence in Research for Australia indicates that critical research participation and productivity, measured in terms of publication in peer-reviewed journals related to the field, are relatively low. Responses gathered from 53 respondents suggest that the research careers of some more established academics have stalled, while others have displaced research with alternative activities, such as continuing to practise journalism, teaching and administration. There is also evidence that the research potential of younger, newer (and often women) journalism academics is not being realised.
