- Authors
Kumar, Rashmi
- Abstract
The article discusses the changing landscape of brain infections in India. It highlights the prevalence of acute encephalitis syndrome (AES) in the country, with Japanese encephalitis (JE) being the most common cause for several decades. However, the incidence of JE has decreased in recent years, and other causes such as dengue with encephalopathy and scrub typhus meningoencephalitis have emerged as dominant causes in certain regions. The article emphasizes the challenges in diagnosing AES and the need for comprehensive testing to establish the etiology. It also presents recent data from a tertiary hospital in Tamil Nadu, which reveals the patterns of AES in southern India.
