- Abstract
The article focuses on the efforts of Al Qaeda to aid separatist movements throughout Southeast Asia. They have provided the ideological indoctrination, training and funding to nurture radical groups, such as the Jemaah Islamiah. Osama Bin Laden, leader of the organization, has provided funds for the Moro Islamic Liberation Front in the Philippines. Al Qaeda leaders Ayman Al Zwahiri and Mohammad Atef visited Aceh, Indonesia in June 2000 to meet with leaders of the Gerakan Aceh Merdek.
