The article reports on the renewal of the Edward Byrne Memorial State and Local Law Enforcement Assitance Grant Program (Byrne Grants) and the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Grant Program in 2009. The law enforcement agencies are to receive a total of $3 billion from both grants which can be used for planning, technology, officers and weapons. It is also presented that improving technologies may be a smarter choice than hiring new officers.
