- Title
THE MORAL FOUNDATIONS OF ECONOMICS.
- Authors
Kirk, Russell
- Abstract
An essay is presented which states that success of economies, like any other in human existence, depends upon certain moral habits and if those habits are lacking, the only way to produce goods is by compulsion. For an economy to function, man relies upon a high degree of honesty and those societies that tolerate theft, cheating and lying do not develop successful economies. The essay suggests that society should also maintain the custom of doing good work, dispense charity, not as a handout but as affection and fortitude, to survive hardships.
