- Title
Finessing and Hybridizing: Innovative Literacy Practices in Reading First Classrooms.
- Authors
Kersten, Jodene; Pardo, Laura
- Abstract
The article discusses and compares the innovative literacy practices of a beginning teacher and a veteran teacher at the Crestview Elementary School as they navigated and finessed their teaching context. The term finesse was used to indicate times when teachers skillfully manipulate and maneuver their teaching context to deliver effective practice. The U.S. elementary school failed to meet Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in 2003, and therefore became a Reading First school and adopted a basal reading program as its core literacy curriculum.
