- Abstract
A recent study compared the prevalence and severity of myocarditis in adolescents before and after COVID-19 vaccination. The study found that vaccine-induced myocarditis was more common and severe than myocarditis caused by COVID-19 infection. The study analyzed clinical biomarkers and MRI characteristics of patients with acute chest pain and elevated troponins. The results showed that patients who developed myocarditis after vaccination had higher body surface area and B-type natriuretic peptide levels compared to those with pre-COVID myocarditis. MRI findings revealed myocardial edema and subepicardial late gadolinium enhancement as the most frequent abnormalities in both groups. The study suggests that further research is needed to understand the prognostic implications of abnormal MRI imaging biomarkers in children with post-COVID vaccine myocarditis.
