The article presents literary criticism of the book "Silas Marner" by George Eliot. Particular focus is given to allusions to the poems "Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard" and "Ode on a Distant Prospect of Eton College" by Thomas Gray in the book. Details what the author describes as the Augustan character of the allusions are also presented.
