- Abstract
Durante estos últimos años se han detectado concentraciones altas de contaminantes que aún no son regulados y que causan una problemática importante para la salud humana y el medio ambiente. La Tetraciclina (TC) es uno de estos contaminantes emergentes con relevancia en el agua. Este fármaco, es un antibiótico de amplio espectro [1] utilizado para tratar enfermedades en humanos y también para engorde de animales [2]. En este trabajo se estudió la adsorción de TC en solución acuosa sobre Paligorskita (Pal), que es una arcilla natural de estructura fibrosa. La Pal se caracterizó por DRX, SEM, fisisorción de N2 y potencial Zeta. Además, se evaluó la importancia del pH, la temperatura y la fuerza iónica de la solución en la capacidad de adsorción. Los resultados indicaron una capacidad máxima de adsorción de 159 mg/g a pH = 7 y T = 25 °C, la cual es 1.3 veces mayor que a pH = 5 (118 mg/g) y 1.7 veces más alta que a pH = 3 (90 mg/g), que se debió al e interacciones mediante puentes de hidrogeno de la TC con los grupos silanol (Si-OH) de la Paligorskita. El efecto del pH de la solución (Figura 2) demostró que las interacciones electrostáticas ocurren mayormente en el pH = 7 debido a que la especie de TC predominante es zwitteriónica. Por el contrario, con los otros pH 3 y 5, las atracciones electrostáticas se ven afectadas a consecuencia de que la carga superficial de la Pal es cercana a su punto isoeléctrico (2.3) a esos pH. Finalmente, el efecto de temperatura demostró que la adsorción de TC sobre Paligorskita es endotérmica puesto que la capacidad de adsorción aumentó con la temperatura.
