- Abstract
Using critical incidents, this study investigated how teachers perceive and form language-related learning and how they use language-related potentials in multilingual classrooms. Teachers attributed both the stagnation and progression of language skills to the students’ willingness to make an effort, general performance and behaviour. Moreover, dealing with language(s) was seen as depending on whether resources for promoting students were available at the school. We discuss these attributions with regard to the educational potentials of multilingual students and implications for teachers and schools.
