- Abstract
Pyridine is a simple heterocyclic compound and resists oxidation even by strong oxidants in acid aqueous medium. The pyridine-N-oxide has been observed to be the oxidation product of pyridine spectrally. Kinetically the reaction is simple second order, viz. first order with respect to each reactant. The kinetic rate equation is: -d[MnO4-]/dt = k[MnO4-][Py] where k is second order rate constant.
