- Authors

- Abstract
This article compares hassles and uplifts in older and younger chronically ill men in regard to whether they perceived their health as good or poor. The impact of hassles on mental and physical health depends on the intensity, duration, and frequency of these events, the coping skills available to the person as a result of age and previous life experiences, as well as the number of positive, compensating events that occur to counteract the effects of hassles. This study examined the relationship among age, perceived health, and microstress as measured by hassles and uplifts in men who were undergoing outpatient treatment for general medical conditions.
