- Abstract
The article analyzes the poetic discourse of the priest poet Esteban Gumucio and its relevance in religious poetry in Chile. His life trajectory is highlighted, including his exile in Belgium, his ordination as a priest, and his dedication to marginalized populations in Santiago. His participation in groups such as "los 80" and "Christians for Socialism" during the Chilean dictatorship is also mentioned. His legacy of accompanying the life of the people with sensitive poetic writings and a tone of denunciation is emphasized. Additionally, his poem "Self-Portrait" is analyzed, and the biblical references present in his work are highlighted. The text reflects on the Christian experience and the importance of following Jesus; believing implies professing faith and socially committing oneself. The importance of recognizing God in the poor and in the struggle for justice is also emphasized. The final poem invites us to be ambassadors of God and to serve in authentic charity.
