- Abstract
This article discusses the efforts of JAMA Psychiatry and the JAMA Network to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) within their editorial boards. The article highlights the gender breakdown of respondents, with more than half of those who disclosed their gender being women. In terms of ethnic origins or ancestry, the majority had Eastern or Western European ancestry, with Central American and Caribbean ancestry being less represented. The article acknowledges the underrepresentation of racial and ethnic minoritized communities in academic psychiatry and emphasizes the importance of including individuals from other underrepresented and minoritized backgrounds. The authors also mention the need to support early-career psychiatrists and prioritize recruiting junior faculty. The overall goal is to diversify representation in science, provide opportunities for those who have traditionally lacked access, and include individuals of varying identities and backgrounds to study underrepresented populations and their psychiatric outcomes.
