- Abstract
Objective To determine the bone mineral density of residents in Jiangsu province, and to analyze the influential factors of high-risk groups in order to provide reference for osteoporosis(OP) diagnosis in the community. Methods Six districts were randomly selected in 6 cities.Three communities were randomly selected in each district. At least 250 40-69-year-old community residents were randomly selected.Questionnaire survey and body measurements were carried out and the result were described and analyzed. Results The average T value of BMD was-0.93±1.01 in all respondents(T).It was higher in females(-0.89±1.04) than in males(-1.03±1.03).The highest T values were in 40-44 age group and 45-49 age group. The lowest was in 65-69 age group.A total of 3346 cases(50.91%) were assessed as OP high-risk individuals.Among those, 3087 cases(46.97%) were osteopenia and 259 cases(3.94%) were osteoporosis. The high-risk proportion in males(1208 cases, 58.41%) was higher than that in females(2138 cases, 47.47%).It was the highest in 60-69 age group(67.07%) and the lowest in 40-49 age group(34.50%).In both genders, the risk was lower in people with education above high school and college than in those with primary school/junior middle school. In females, the risk was 0.588 and 1.435 times higher in business/services and agriculture/forestry/fishing practitioners than that in civil servants, respectively.Consumption of milk products(OR=0.832)and walk more than 5000 footsteps daily(OR=0.846) were listed as relatively low risk groups. Conclusion Gender, age, cultural level, and profession can influence the distribution of BMD and OP risk.Consumption of milk products and walk more than5000 footsteps daily are protective factors of OP.Screening and diagnosis of OP in community residents should be enhanced in the targeted population with above factors.
