- Abstract
One of the prominent discussions regarding the position of the peasantry in the capitalist mode of production, as well as its role as a subject, occurs in its understanding as a social class. Marxist understanding of the composition of social classes is fundamentally structured into two: the bourgeoisie and the proletariat, the first being characterized by the possessors and the second characterized by the dispossessed. However, the peasantry as a social subject does not fit into the linearity of Marxist orthodox understanding. He is so distant from the agendas, interests and economic corpus of landowners, as well, he does not conform as a pure and simple working class, due to family work on the land not being paid back. His sociological and economic guidelines are aimed at guaranteeing family survival, but, not detached from the current social formation, as he repeatedly exchanges with her, sometimes recreating herself, sometimes being repelled. Thus, the peasantry historically permeates, resisting and existing as a class in its peculiarity. As a methodological perspective, we favor interpretative analysis based on historical and dialectical materialism in an attempt to bring more meaningful answers to the discussions and contradictions that involve the peasantry as a subject.
