- Abstract
The article discusses the persistence of temperate plant and animal species in many small refugia in Europe north of the main southern peninsular refugia. It states the importance of fossils in order to testify the existence of microrefugia. The support on climatic niche models to the view regarding the existence of beech in south-western France is also cited.
