- Abstract
Various investigational transcripts have proven the improved antibacterial effect of the potential coumarin core compound. Coumarin is a heterocyclic compound composed of benzene and pyrone rings and its derivatives are of wide scope because of their diverse biological activities. As E. coli is the most common human pathogen, resistance to this is of particular concern. No significant progress has been made so far in the development of innovative drug molecules. The coumarin core bridged with other heterocyclic derivatives has been designed and assessed for various Gam-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. In view of this, the present review mainly focuses on the censorious analysis of literature of synthetically derived coumarin derivatives with antibacterial activity for E. coli and structural–activity relationship for the coumarin derivatives. The current review also discusses the substitution pattern of the coumarin derivatives and its impact on activity. Thus, the present work will facilitate the rational design of coumarin bridge antibacterial drugs for E. coli resistance.
