- Abstract
SPONTANEOUSLY hypertensive (SH) rats1 have increased2,3 tyrosine hydroxylase and dopamine β-hydroxylase (DBH) activities in the adrenal glands. They also show a pronounced hypotensive reaction2,3 to the specific microbial inhibitors of these enzymes4. The results suggest some involvement of the adrenergic nervous system in the hypertension. But the activity of DBH in serum of SH rats, which is released from the sympathetically innervated organs and adrenals5, does not differ significantly from that of normotensive Wistar rats6.
