- Abstract
The article focuses on a study about the risk for end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in adolescents and young adults in Israel with persistent asymptomatic isolated microscopic hematuria. Diagnosis of persistent asymptomatic isolated microscopic hematuria is discussed, criteria of which include serum creatinine values within the normal range, no abnormalities found in renal imaging studies and further evaluation and confirmation of the diagnosis by a certified nephrologist. Results indicate that of the 1,203,626 respondents, 3,690 have been diagnosed with the condition. Findings suggest that persistent asymptomatic isolated microscopic hematuria in the age group can serve as a strong predictive risk marker of ESRD based on the primary etiology of glomerular disease.
