- Abstract
The article provides information on a study which determined the effects of an intensive lifestyle modification on weight loss and cardiometabolic risk factors in severely obese African American and white adults. Study subjects were recruited from February 2007 to April 2010 at the University of Pittsburgh. Interventions utilized included diet and physical activity. Main outcome measures included changes in weight, waist circumference, visceral abdominal fat, hepatic steatosis and cardiometabolic risk factors. A discussion on the research findings is detailed. The benefits of lifestyle modification consisting of a combination of diet and initial or delayed initiation of physical activity to obese individuals are noted.
