- Abstract
The study on micromycetes inhabiting infested and fallen leaves of new evergreen Rhododendron L. hybrids was carried out in 2010-2012, in the collection of ornamental plants of the Faculty of Biotechnology and Horticulture at the University of Agriculture in Krakow. The study included 10 rhododendron taxa with the following parental lines: R. aureum, R. brachycarpum, R. purdomii, R. catawbiense 'Catharine van Thol' and R. yakushimanum 'Koichiro Wada'. The aim of the study was to compare leaf infection due to micromycetes with the usefulness of new evergreen rhododendron taxa for further breeding. The study determined the intensification of leaf infection of new rhododendron taxa. The diversity of micromycetes composition was confirmed on live and fallen leaves. We indicated which micromycetes intensified the process of leaf fall and which taxa have the potential to become valuable forms of parenting in further selection and breeding work.
