- Abstract
Textile artist Mari jona Sinkevi čie nė was born in Tauragė region in 1951. In 1967 she started the studies in the former Kaunas Applied Art Technical School of Stepas Žukas, and from 1976 to 1982 studied in Kaunas Department of LSSR National Art Institute. After graduation Marijona commenced her pedagogical career. For many years the artist lectured in the Technical school of Stepas Žukas. Later the school was transformed into The Faculty of Arts and Education of Kaunas Collegium and M. Sinkevičienė was working there in the position of Assoc. Prof. until 2018. M. Sinkevičienė has educated a considerable number ofyoung artists, however she has never given up her personal creation work. The artist has materialized a lot of tapestry works, flags, miniature textile artworks. Her works have been purchased by Polish Art museums in Gdynia and Krosna, Lithuanian Art Museum, National Art Museum of M. K. Čiurlionis, Raseiniai Region History Museum, Samogitian museum in Plungė. The artworks of M. Sinkevičienė have been presented in exhibitions both in Lithuania and abroad. Her contribution to Lithuanian textile was first appreciated in 1984 when the artist was awarded a Ministry of Culture of Lithuania premium. In 2015 Raseiniai Region History Museum nominated M. Sinkevičienė for National Culture and Art Premium for her lifetime achievements in creative work. In 2016 the artist was awarded a diploma by Kaunas Art club „Sfinksas“ and „Meno sparnai“ union for astounding creative results. M. Sinkevičienė has participated in creative research projects „Cultural heritage - sacral textile“, and many others. The artist belongs to a textile artists group „Esame“, and is also a member of Lithuanian Artist Union.
